TSA Mkes "House Calls" Within The Airport
TSA Makes “House Calls” Within The Airport
Today’s papers report a new process that puts TSA screeners in the middle of the airport, swabbing people at “random” for traces of chemicals that suggest foul play. I see three problems here. The first problem is “randomness.” We all know from years of experience with this agency that their PC notion of “randomness” suggests a severe focus on blue eyed blond haired grandmothers although this particular demographic group has never once threatened an aircraft. The second problem is randomness: how many people are they stopping that have just left a plane, or aren’t even passengers? The third problem is random thinking: is this “interdiction” or “deterrence?” (Catching someone or scaring them away) I’m not even sure TSA knows the answer to this important question.

See the blog at http://rlifud.com/2010/06/22/more-tsa-idiocy/ for yet another example of TSA idiocy.
Does anyone have stats on how many items they've swabbed that have revealed explosives? How reliable is this technology?
Reliable enough at revealing chemicals, but doesn't offer any insight as to whether they have a legitimate origin. Example: a trip to the rifle range without washing your hands can transfer gunpowder residue onto the steering wheel. weeks later you use that car to get to the airport? Busted!
